The 91-year-old legendary singer talked about her childhood in Kolhapur in Maharashtra, her passion for cooking and more. Asha Bhosle’s Favourite Singer Is Noor Jehan

Isn’t it fascinating to learn about a legendary singer’s favourite singer? We wanted to discover about the same from Asha Bhosle. She disclosed that her favourite singer in India is the late Noor Jehan. She was a Pakistani playback singer who belted out melodious songs in British India and then shifted her career to the cinema of Pakistan.

Noor’s fantastic career spanned more than six decades and had a memorable friendship with Asha Ji. Our guest recalled that she had known the late singer her whole life! She told us they knew each other right from Asha’s Kolhapur days. 

Noor Jehan was in town for a shooting and had met with Asha Bhosle. It was an instant connection and the latter completely fell in love with her voice, work ethic and beauty! Then, she moved on to share her favourite international singers and they are Barbara, a French singer and Caterina Valente, an Italian-French-German multilingual singer, guitarist, and dancer.

Her First Song Ever

While on the topic of music and singing, we spoke about how the entire Mangeshkar family liked music. Asha ji reflected on how a music teacher shunned Asha ji who tagged along with her elder sister, the late Lata Mangeshkar, to music classes. So a music teacher was hired, who would teach them at home. Slowly and steadily, the rest of the siblings joined.

In this manner, everyone learned a bit of music here and there. That is when we spoke of her first song ever. It was in the year 1943, at the age of 10 years, she sang a Marathi song. It was for a film called ‘Majha Bal’ and the song was called ‘Chala Chala Nav Bala.’ And the rest is history!
