It won’t be an exaggeration to say that 2024 has been a bit shaky for Asian countries so far. The year began with a major earthquake in Japan (magnitude 7.5) that recorded more than 200 life loss. The country was still recovering from this major disaster when another earthquake struck on 9th January. This one was recorded 6 on the Richter scale and caused no major damage or life loss.

This was followed by a mild but scary earthquake in Indonesia and the Philippines on 9th January. The Talaud Islands in Indonesia suffered from an earthquake of 6.8 magnitude, while the one in the Philippines was 7 in magnitude.

A tremulous start to 2024 indeed. We hope that the tectonic plates can take a chill for a while and rest easy without causing any more disruption in Asia for a while.
