Remote working has been a known thing ever since the coronavirus lockdown happened. There was a rise in the digital nomad visas as the lockdown and Covid-19 restrictions were lifted and began trending. But the new trend now which is on a rise is ‘Slomads’. A Slomad is a kind of digital nomad who consciously chooses a destination and spends a longer duration there experiencing the local culture and is more eco conscious.
Slomad Is Different From Digital Nomad
Ever since the pandemic hit the world, it has seen a surge in remote and flexible jobs. The idea has been supported by Twitter and Airbnb as well as many countries that have begun issuing digital nomad visas allowing them to work for 2 years. Digital nomads are the people who just fly off to a location and work from there. Now the newly trending type Slomad is very much different. Unlike the digital nomads who are mostly in their 20s, Slomads can be anyone in their 20s to 50s. The major difference is that slomads are slow enough to stay back in a place for longer duration and experience the local flavours of the place and are also very eco conscious.

Slomad As A Trend Is Here To Stay
A recent poll conducted by Fiverr and Lonely Planet revealed that while a third of nomads preferred to relocate every one to three months, more than 55 percent preferred to stay put and preferred to travel only after three months or more. Americans make up the majority of digital nomads/slomads among all ethnicities. Additionally, long-term accommodations in Portugal increased by 90% in 2018 compared to 2019, which simply goes to demonstrate how many people desire to be nomads. Barbados, Aruba, Croatia, Cape Verde, Estonia, Malta, Indonesia, and Norway are among the countries that grant visas for digital nomads that allow them to reside and work for up to two years.
