Around the beginning of June, Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra start to witness rainfall. Since Mumbai is a coastal city, it is the first part of the state to experience rainfall. However, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that this year, Maharashtra will witness a delay in the start of the monsoon season.

Weather experts stated on Monday that a system over the Arabian Sea is likely to impact the start of the monsoon over interior Maharashtra, including Pune, delaying it past June 15. According to a Times Of India report, the head of IMD, or the Indian Meteorological Department stated that monsoon typically begins in Maharashtra’s most southern regions on or around June 6th or 7th.

Moreover, it sweeps across the entire state by or around June 15. However, because of the system over the Arabian Sea, it is unlikely that the monsoon would reach some areas of Maharashtra until at least June 8.

The weather does not seem good for Mumbai residents, who are already suffering from the extreme heat. Before June 15, according to some experts, the monsoon is unlikely to arrive in Mumbai. On Sunday, the city’s nighttime temperatures were 28 °C and 28.6°C, respectively, while the daytime temperatures were 35.2°C and 34.7°C, respectively, according to the IMD Colaba and Santacruz observatories.

However, according to experts, before the start of the monsoon season, this is not unusual during the transitional period from May’s end to June. Partly overcast skies at night and in the morning trap heat near the surface. This year, India is facing a tough time with no rain and a rising temperature.
