Now You Don’t Need Boarding Pass At Berlin Airport; Facial Recognition System Installed

New technologies are being implemented in various sectors, especially aviation. Most importantly, the use of facial recognition systems and biometrics is becoming common. They were a priority for the airports for a long time. Various airports have installed them including Berlin Brandenburg Airport. Here’s everything you need to know about BER.

A digital service for biometric access control called BER Traveller is being launched by Berlin Brandenburg Airport. The new service is available to Lufthansa Group Airlines Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings’ HON Circle Members and Senators as of right now. Before, they had to present their boarding pass to enter the priority security control queue. This is no longer required.

These travellers now have quick access to the priority security checkpoint via a special lane employing facial recognition, which is convenient and simple. The only requirement is a single registration of their biometric information in the FastID app provided by the service provider. An invitation will be sent to passengers by their airline through email.

With this new offering, the Lufthansa Group and BER are collaborating to broaden the selection of digital services available to travellers. The service is initially intended just for HON Circle Members and Senators of Lufthansa Group Airlines. The next phase will involve using self-service kiosks at BER, boarding at the gate, and facial recognition to get entry to the Lufthansa Group Lounge.

The new biometric service is entirely optional to utilise. The passenger’s app stores personal and biometric information online. After registering in the app, passengers can choose again whether to use the service for the following flight before each trip. Only then will the information (flight data and biometric identifiers) and the later-taken airport images be provided to FastID in encrypted form for comparison.

The information is only kept in the passenger’s app after the flight and is erased from FastID. The data in the app is entirely in the passengers’ hands, and they can delete it entirely at any moment.
