If you’re suffering from Polycystic ovary syndrome  (PCOS), hormonal issues or trying to conceive, then perhaps you need to pay a little more attention to what you eat first thing in the morning. Your breakfast is the key to your reproductive health. Fertility nutritionist and PCOS coach Aastha Verma shared a post on Instagram that informs women of 5 breakfasts that they should avoid to support their hormones, fertility and periods.

Verma revealed that her journey with PCOS, getting pregnant at 37, naturally, and her experience as a fertility nutritionist has taught her that breakfast can set the tone for one’s fertility, periods and hormones. Moreover, she claims to have helped women navigate their journey in reversing PCOS.

So, here are 5 breakfasts she recommends women to avoid to support hormones and fertility and manage PCOS.

1. Sugary Cereals

The fertility nutritionist tells women to avoid sugar cereals for breakfast as it causes blood sugar spikes and can wreak havoc on one’s hormones. Sugary cereals are processed foods and are loaded with added sugar.

2. Flavoured Yoghurt

Aastha Verma informs that flavoured yoghurt is packed with hidden sugar that can disrupt ovulation. So, for women wanting to get pregnant, it’s best to avoid flavoured yoghurt for breakfast.

3. White Bread With Jam

Since white bread with jam has neither protein nor fibre, it can cause “insulin drama.” While bread is high in carbs, jam causes blood sugar spikes, two reasons why it’s best to avoid this brekkie option.

4. Cold Smoothies

Cold smoothies are topping fitness discourses and adorning health cafe menus. But are they as healthy as we tour them to be? Fertility nutritionist says that cold smoothies slow digestion and metabolism and worsen PCOS symptoms.

5. Black Coffee

Finally, the PCOS coach reveals that black coffee must be avoided on an empty stomach as it’s a “hormonal disaster” and a “cortisol rollercoaster”.
