Oman Announces Lockdown From 8-15 May: Here’s Everything You Need To Know

Covid-19 cases in the Sultanate of Oman are on the rise, and to curb the further spread of the novel coronavirus, Oman has imposed strict rules with a lockdown from May 8 to 15. Here’s everything you must know about it.

Only Essential Activites Throughout The Day Will Be Allowed, Commercial Activities Are Banned

Oman will enter lockdown from Saturday, May 8 till 15. Commercial activities throughout the day will be suspended. The sale of foodstuff, clinics, pharmacies, hospitals and other essential services will be open. In addition, home delivery service will be allowed for all types of goods during the ban period. Attendance of all employees at the workplace will be suspended and substituted with online work, with effect ‪from Sunday, 9 May 2021 to Tuesday, 11 May 2021.

Furthermore, Eid prayers, Eid souqs (Habta) and public gatherings are banned in all places, including beaches and parks during Eid Al Fitr holidays. This also includes a ban on family gatherings or Eid gatherings or mass celebrations of the Eid. Besides this, Oman Airports have added a new set of restrictions for the arrivals.

Only Omanis And Residents With Visa Issued On Or Before April 5 Can Now Enter Oman

Oman Airports have added a new set of restrictions for the arrivals. Only Omanis and residents whose visas were issued on or before April 5, 2021, can now enter the Sultanate. Suspension of entry into the has been extended for further notice for travelers coming from Sudan, Lebanon, South Africa, Brazil, Nigeria, Tanzania, Ghana, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, the United Kingdom, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The Ban Will Be In Place Till Further Notice

In terms of travel, one cannot enter Oman if they have passed through any of the above-mentioned countries during the 14 days before visiting the Sultanate. As per the decision, people traveling from Egypt and the Philippines are not allowed to enter Oman either.

The Ban will start from Today, May 7, 2021, until further notice, exempting only Omani citizens, diplomats, health workers and their families. And those exempted will have to follow a certain set of rules and procedures upon entering the Sultanate. Flights from the United Kingdom also remain suspended till further notice except for cargo flights.
