The Greek philosopher Heraclitus rightly said that change is the only constant in our lives. Anyone and everyone, be it a person or a brand, has to keep bringing in small changes in them to match the progressing time. Keeping this in mind, Air India has changed its crew’s uniforms, and they are made by none other than the fashion wizard Manish Malhotra himself. From ombré sarees with pants to bandhgalas, this is how the new uniforms look!
Air India Crew Will Now Wear Manish Malhotra Designs
A new era of inflight fashion has arrived with the launch of Air India’s much-awaited, all-new range of uniforms for cockpit and cabin crew. Air India is the premier international airline in India.
The new uniforms are made in Mumbai by Indian celebrity couturier Manish Malhotra. These new uniforms have a variety of colors and classic styles. The collection reflects a unique, well-balanced fusion of 21st-century comfort, elegance, and style with the rich aesthetics and legacy of India.
Over the course of the following six months, the new uniforms will be gradually implemented, beginning with the Air India A350’s debut flight.
Malhotra’s interpretation of contemporary Indian fashion aligns with Air India’s recently revealed global corporate identity. It positions the airline as the standard-bearer of a progressive, self-assured, and resurgent India.
Freedom To Create An Outfit
The ready-to-wear ombré saree with elaborate patterns is part of the female cabin crew uniform. It will be worn with a relaxed blouse and blazer and be evocative of both the Vista (the new Air India brand image) and Indian heritage architecture (jharokha).
The ready-to-wear sarees can alternatively be paired with cosy slacks. This gives female cabin crew members more freedom to create the outfit that best suits their personal taste and creating a distinctive East meets West aesthetic.
The senior female cabin crew will look sophisticated and authoritative in their aubergine-to-burgundy ombré sarees paired with aubergine blazers. Junior female cabin crew, on the other hand, will represent youth and vitality by dressing in vivid red-to-purple ombré sarees paired with crimson blazers.
Both male and female cabin crew members can move freely and accomplish their in-flight duties. All thanks to the comfortable clothes that fit them well.

A Rigorous Testing Process
The Air India In-flight Services team and cabin crew members collaborated closely to develop the new uniform designs, which were also put through a rigorous testing process.
The traditional black double-breasted suit worn by the cockpit crew is emblazoned with a Vista-inspired graphic. It denotes professionalism, agelessness, and the gravity of the aviation industry.
Malhotra has also chosen footwear that strikes a balance between fashion and comfort. This enables every stride to reflect the elegance and poise found in Air India’s new wardrobe.
The male cabin crew will be dressed in cosy black brogues. While the female cabin crew will be dressed in dual-tone block heels (black and burgundy). For female cabin staff, the costumes feature sling bags and pearl earrings.
