A man died due to suffocation during Rath Yatra in Puri, Odisha on Sunday. It has been reported that lakhs of devotees gathered to be a part of the annual Rath Yatra which led to a stampede-like situation. The man lost his life due to suffocation during the entire ordeal. Man Dies Of Suffocation & Several Injured During Puri Rath Yatra
For the first time since 1971, the annual Rath Yatra in Puri is being held over two days. This rare occurrence has led to a massive turnout with lakhs of devotees taking part in it. Unfortunately, this massive crowd at the Puri Rath Yatra has led to the death of one man due to suffocation. Furthermore, around 130 people have been reported injured due to a stampede-like situation on Sunday.
However, as per an NDTV report, the administration has mentioned that the death was due to suffocation and there was no stampede-like situation during the first day of the annual yatra. They have stressed that due to heat, humidity, and rush, the man lost his life.
Several other people were injured and hospitalised during the entire ordeal. Talking about this with NDTV, the administration said that there were adequate arrangements and ambulances to attend to such situations.
Mohan Charan Majhi, Chief Minister of Odisha, has expressed his grief over the unfortunate incident during the Rath Yatra procession. He has announced ₹4 lakh ex-gratia for the deceased’s family.

- Be mindful of exits and potential escape routes of the place you’re visiting.
- Keep yourself hydrated. Carry water bottles and drink fluids regularly while you’re there.
- Wear loose and breathable clothes.
- Opt for comfortable footwear to avoid blisters.
- Establish meeting points if you’re accompanied by others.
