Orange Alert In Kashmir: Here Is Everything Tourists Should Know Before Visiting

An orange alert has been issued for Jammu and Kashmir by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which has predicted hail in Punjab, and thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rainfall in the Jammu area. This warning coincides with a sharp decline in temperature in the Kashmir Valley, where recent precipitation has lowered the temperature to five degrees Celsius. Many visitors to well-known locations like Gulmarg are enjoying the snowfall as they observe these shifting weather patterns in the Valley.

Orange Alert Issued in Kashmir

The recent weather patterns have led to a resurgence of winter-like conditions in Kashmir. The valley has experienced fresh spells of rain, contributing to a noticeable drop in temperatures. Tourists have reported colder conditions compared to previous days, with rainfall intensifying the chill. Notably, snowfall occurred in areas like Gulmarg on February 26 and 27, providing visitors with picturesque winter landscapes.

However, this orange alert also brings challenges such as slippery roads and potential travel disruptions.

Travel Recommendations For Tourists

Given the orange alert and prevailing weather conditions, tourists planning to visit Kashmir should exercise caution. It’s advisable to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and heed advisories from local authorities. Travellers should be prepared for sudden weather changes, carry appropriate winter clothing, and ensure their accommodations are equipped to handle colder temperatures.

As cited in Hindustan Times, Anvita from Vadodara described the weather as extremely cold despite wearing multiple layers. She had enjoyed staying in a houseboat, spending an entire day on a Shikara ride, and trying local homemade dishes. Excited about the possibility of snowfall between the 6th and 13th, she encouraged others to visit.

Additionally, those planning activities like trekking or travelling to higher altitudes should reconsider or postpone their plans until conditions improve. Always inform someone about your travel itinerary and expected return times.
