On Saturday afternoon, at least six people, including the pilot and co-pilot, were injured when a small plane crash-landed in Rourkela, Odisha. The nine-seater aircraft was carrying four passengers and made an emergency landing in farmland near Katibandha Kansara after it developed a technical snag.
Small Plane Crashes In Rourkela, Odisha
According to India Today, after issuing a MAYDAY call, the pilots crash-landed the plane around 15–20 km short of Rourkela airport in Odisha, averting a major tragedy. The aircraft, a Cessna Grand Caravan 208B byIndiaOne Airlines, was flying from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela.
It took off from Bhubaneswar at around 12:25 PM. At 1:14 PM, the crew declared a MAYDAY for Rourkela ATC. They crash-landed at around 1:20 PM in an open area near Jalda/Kansor. India Today reported that the controlled forced landing prevented any loss of life.
The district administration reached the crash site and shifted all injured persons to nearby hospitals. Three passengers were rushed to the JP Hospital, while two pilots and one passenger are now being treated at Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH). They are all stable and under medical observation now.

In an official statement, the Odisha government confirmed the plane crash and said, “It is to inform that India One Air type of aircraft (Caravan 208), bearing registration VT-KSS, was flying from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela. It departed at 12:27 hours. It had two pilots and four passengers. The aircraft force-landed at a place near Jalda. The pilots ensured a safe landing, due to which lives have been saved.”
Hindustan Times reported that the single-engine aircraft was about four to five kilometres into the flight when it developed a snag. This prompted the pilots to crash-land the aircraft. IndiaOne Airlines released a statement stating, “The airline is working closely with the aviation regulators and the Odisha State Government to provide all necessary assistance and support to the passengers and crew, and to facilitate further actions as required.”
