The melodious singer Palash Sen joined our Editor-in-Chief, for this episode of Tere Gully Mein. His 25-year-old music band, Euphoria, has launched back-to-back hit albums in the past. But did you know that Palash has also done a couple of films? He appears on the screens for more than interviews and music videos! Turns out he took acting lessons during his school days! How Did Palash Sen Receive His Acting Debut?

After endless conversations about Palash’s music, life in Delhi and more, we wanted to shed some light on his acting career. He shared that he has been acting since his school days. He recalled receiving a call from Meghna Gulzar who is a well-known writer, producer and director in Indian cinema.

She is the daughter of Gulzar and is popularly known for films like Talvar and Raazi. Meghna reached out to Palash as she was looking for an actor with anunhappy facefor her 2002 film Filhaal….. She also told him that almost every actor in the industry had rejected this sorrowful character and Palash was the last option.

Our guest knew that most of his music revolved around sadness as he never got the girl; hence, he would be a perfect fit for the role. Palash agreed to do it and thus made his debut in the film industry.

How Was His Experience?

Speaking about his acting experience in Filhaal…, he revealed that he didn’t enjoy shooting for this character! His schedule was too long and he received a lot of criticism for his debut. Palash also mentioned that the film didn’t perform well at the box office.

He elaborated on how working on a movie as opposed to theatre is completely different. He expressed that he followed his theatre understanding of a natural yet controlled actor. However, films need to be over the top which he couldn’t portray well on the screen. Lastly, he summed it up by saying that there were multiple factors behind why the film didn’t work out.
