The establishment first opened in 1932 and since then, the flavour, if local testimonies are to go by, has been unchanged. There is hardly anyone in New York City who is a stranger to Papaya King’s legacy. They’ve been one of the OG hot dog vendors since time immemorial. It was opened by a Greek Immigrant named Constantinople ‘Gus’ Poulos.
Papaya King then expanded and opened a number of stores in other places. In 2022, however, it was revealed that the original store would be shut down. This broke the hearts of New Yorkers who loved the place as an institution.
The building in which the store was located was supposed to be pulled down. Owing to its widespread popularity, it was later announced that a new Papaya King would open across the street with a bigger space. It is now finally open.

According to a post which was recently shared on Instagram by the famous Hollywood actor Sarah Jessica Parker, the original spot will be demolished. Her post was clearly indicative of the excitement that she experienced, and why wouldn’t she be excited? She’s a true-blue New Yorker!
In the caption, she wrote, “Oh My Gosh, FINALLY!! Seriously.” She went on to list the address of the hot dog place. Many commenters admired the fact she was actually promoting a local business. She even responded to many of the comments asking her about it.
