The two legendary actors, Paresh Rawal and Shatrughan Sinha, met our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, for a delightful Sunday Brunch. The actors opened up about their early lives, journey into the film industry, love lives, childhood memories, and more. While reminiscing about their nostalgic days in the film industry, they shared how they chose different roles to stay relevant. During the conversation, Paresh ji even shared what amazed him when he first saw Shatrughan Sinha. Read on to know more about it.

What Paresh Rawal Felt When He First Saw Shatrughan Ji?

The duo not only gave Bollywood some of its best cult films, but their dialogue delivery was also praised by many. Their dialogues had such a strong impact that they are still relevant across all age groups and have never gone out of style. Be it Paresh Rawal’s iconic line, “Utha le re deva, utha le re,” from Hera Pheri or the all-time favourite word ‘Khamosh’ by Shatrughan Ji, the duo has inspired many with their style of delivering dialogues.

While talking about iconic dialogues, Paresh Ji said, “Jab humne Shatru Saab ko pehli baar dekha, itni stunning dialogue delivery uske pehle humne kabhi nahi dekhi thi aur nahi suni thi.” He even shared that when people watched Shatrughan’s film Mere Apne, they were so impressed with his dialogue delivery that they started mimicking his lines right outside the theatre.

Shatrughan Sinha recalled his acting days and shared a nostalgic story from the time he played lead roles in Amjad Khan’s films Chor-Police and Ameer Aadmi, Ghareeb Aadmi. He said that Mere Apne had such a strong impact that whenever Amjad Khan saw him, he would greet Shatrughan Ji by reciting one of his iconic dialogues from the film. He would say, “Ghaslet bache, ghaslet… yani mitti ka tel. Aur agar abhi ye samajh nahi aaya ho toh dukaan ko aag laga ke bataun ghaslet kise kehte hain.’’

When Kamiya mentioned another iconic dialogue of Shatru Ji, “Shaam aayein toh kehna Chenu aaya hai,” Paresh Rawal responded, “Arey… poore college canteen ke andar, kahin bhi, har jagah wahi dialogue chalta tha. It became a national anthem kind of a thing.” Truly, Shatrughan Ji’s era is something that 90s Bollywood fans can never forget.

Shatrugha Ji Spills The Beans Behind The Word ‘Khamosh’

During the conversation, Kamiya pointed out that Shatrughan Ji had used the word ‘Khamosh’ multiple times in the episode itself. When asked if the word had become a part of his life, he laughed and said that many people, including his kids, often ask him which film he actually used it in. He said, “Mujhe khud yaad hota toh… Maine toh ek baar chhattis baar dekhi thi Mughal-e-Azam, usme Prithviraj Ji bhi keh chuke hain ‘Khamosh’. Phir maine kaha, arey bhai, ye bhi keh chuke hain.’’ But it was his unique style that made the word iconic, and his fans picked it up, turning it into his OG iconic word.
