Also widely known as Navroz and Nowruz, Parsis celebrate this holy day with pomp and glory. Iranians and Zoroastrians have been observing this important festival for around 3,000 years.
The auspicious term Navroz has been derived from two Persian words. The words are Nav and Roz and they mean New and Day. This day marks the start of a new chapter in everyone’s life filled with new dreams, hopes, joy of spring, and new beginnings.
Parsis generally celebrate this special occasion following traditions and rituals in March in different parts of the world. Interestingly, the date of Navroz falls either in July or August in India. The Parsi community residing in India is celebrating this auspicious day and a new beginning on August 16, 2024.
Preparations for the festivals start a few days before with people cleaning their houses and decorating them with flowers. Special arrangements are made for the Haft Sin table. A huge feast of authentic food such as Parsi Sev, Patra Ni Machhi, Dhansak, and Lagan Nu Custard is cooked for Navroz. Parsis also wear their traditional outfits and offer prayers at fire temples.
