alApp-based ride-hailing services like Uber and Ola have become such an integral part of our lives that thinking about life before them is almost impossible! However, their convenience can’t overshadow the fact that they have also raised safety concerns for their passengers in recent times. A Delhi-based man took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a distressing incident involving his wife and an Uber driver. According to the post, the cab driver was trying to overcharge the lady by asking for more money. As she felt unsafe, she attempted to press the SOS button on the cab which did not work.
Delhi Man’s Horrible Uber Experience Raises Concerns About Safety
If you are in Delhi….don't take ride with KARAN….car number DL1RTB4168.
Absolutely nonsense behavior from @Uber_Support @Uber_India cab driver. After driving for 1 km….cab driver started asking for Rs 200 extra. My wife even pressed SOS button for help from Uber 2 fix this… pic.twitter.com/rjgVpCospl

X (formerly Twitter) user, Gajender Yadav posted about his wife’s horrible experience with Uber. In a detailed post, he explained how an Uber driver tried to ask his wife for an extra ₹200 just a few minutes after the ride started. Feeling unsafe, she pressed the SOS button but no help came her way! The man posted about the entire situation on social media. He mentioned that even after two days (at the time of posting), Uber has yet to respond to the SOS call.
He mentioned the driver’s name and cab number and asked Delhi people to avoid taking the cab. This post has garnered a lot of attention and the company is facing a lot of backlash for their lack of response. Seeing all the criticism online, Uber finally reached out and assured them that they had suspended the driver and were taking action against him. Uber also released an official statement countering the claim that the SOS button is managed by a third-party. According to the company’s spokesperson, Uber has an in-App SOS button, which connects you to local law enforcement authorities, when pressed.
In a follow-up tweet, Gajender mentioned how his post wasn’t about the extra ₹200. He wished to make a point about why the conversation about the money was initiated by the driver in the first place. Also, he wanted to highlight how Uber’s SOS button didn’t seem to work in an emergency. He even called out people who tried to blame him for the suspension of the driver by Uber.
My last post related to this Uber Incidence.
I was not prepared for this….receiving links of the articles in DM 🫣

Everything is a Joke for Uber India. Lately @Uber_India India stated charging higher than the displayed amount at the time of booking. Uber is @Olacabs now.

@Uber is not what it used to be, the drivers are ruling the roost & the unions are partly to blame. Unless they up their game, only matter of time some other premium app will take over the baton. Man up @UberIN_Support stick to your SLA & STOP capitulating to the errant drivers.

So the SOS button will be if no use when it’s an actual emergency 🆘

@Uber_Support is literally ridiculous at there service . Few days ago I raise complaint against driver behaviour but feel I spoke to AI. Even Uber driver also said me “ Jo krna h krlo hona kuch nhi h “ coz they know the service of Uber .

Uber is pathetic these days. Couple of weeks back i had taken a cab in Bangalore and my final fare was 120rs higher than the estimated fare. Upon raising the issue, their customer care was least bothered and no one was ready to even listen to the issue let alone resolving it.

Once i got cheated by @Olacabs driver. I booked cab and he told me to wait for sometimes for cng refill which i agreed because i didn’t knw about the extra waiting charges. It took half an hour for cng waiting. At final destination he charged us more than double the charge. 1/2

The uber service is getting worst day by day.
Fares are crossing the limits, sometimes drivers are not accepting rides, once they accept they don’t want to come and don’t even cancel the trip from their side.Hope uber takes note of these problems

True.
Similar experience with me too from other Uber cab drivers.
I have shared the feedback with Uber.— Kiran Rajput (@_KiranRajput) April 22, 2024
People have started going back to normal taxis or have already switched to alternatives to avoid any troubles.
use @BluSmartIndia man i can vouch driver behaviour is really great. Very polite and on time only issue is scale that they operate is quite low So if u can get blu forget others

It’s been long since I have stopped using Uber Ola for important travel plans. Better to have a local cab driver contact, even if you pay them 200-300 extra, you will have peace of mind.

This is really concerning and the company needs to look into this immediately.
I was told by a Uber driver that the sos button is only for show and it does not work… He even pressed it two times in front of me and nothing happened

SOS buttons that don’t work and customer care that responds after social media backlash – Uber is really making people question their safety measures. Let us know your two cents on this case in the comments.
