An IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Phuket had to be diverted to Malaysia’s Penang due to bad weather on Friday. After a wait of almost three hours in Penang, the flight took off at 2:55 PM (Malaysian Time) and landed in Phuket soon after. During this wait in Penang, the passengers on the flight complained about clogged lavatories, lack of food and water, and being stranded on the tarmac for almost three hours.

Why Was IndiGo’s Mumbai-Phuket Flight Diverted?

On Friday, an IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Phuket was forced to be diverted to Penang, Malaysia. As per a NDTV Profit report, the airline had to divert the flight due to adverse weather conditions. As per the airline’s statement, flight 6E 1701 was diverted to Penang, Malaysia as it was the nearest airport. They, reportedly, ‘carried out the necessary precaution to ensure the safety of the passengers.’

The statement further mentioned that the passengers on the plane were informed about the ‘unexpected detour.’ IndiGo also provided ‘refreshments to ensure comfort’ for the passengers. IndiGo’s Mumbai-Phuket flight was scheduled to land in Phuket at 10:30 AM (Malaysian Time). However, due to the weather conditions, the flight landed in Penang at 11 AM (Malaysian Time). Passengers were not allowed to disembark the aircraft. Finally, after a wait of almost three hours, the flight resumed travel to Phuket at 2:55 PM (Malaysian Time).

Passengers Complain About Clogged Toilets & Lack Of Food

The unexpected diversion of IndiGo’s Mumbai-Phuket flight caused quite an ordeal for the passengers. As per the NDTV Profit report, the passengers were left stranded on the tarmac of the Penang Airport for nearly three hours! Since they were not allowed to disembark the aircraft, they also had to face other issues.

According to the report, many passengers complained about clogged lavatories and a lack of food and water supply in the plane. Reportedly, the aircraft ran out of drinking water during the wait at the Penang Airport tarmac. Furthermore, NDTV Profit reported that IndiGo continued to only sell food to passengers during this time.
