Guess who beat Claridge’s and The Ledbury, two iconic food institutions of London for the best restaurant spot on TripAdvisor? A newly opened vegan restaurant by the name Amrutha Lounge. Before you let your judgment get better of you, we’ll tell you why this 2018-born eating place is worthy of this huge accolade.
When two former school friends Arvin Suntaramoophy and Shyam Kotecha decided to convert their tiny food stall into a full-blown restaurant, they had only one thing in mind: to feed as many hungry mouths as they could. Amrutha Lounge, their baby, is vegan restaurant where one can come in and pay whatever they deem right for a meal. Specializing in Eastern cuisine, you can also help out in the kitchen as a payment for the food served. Don’t worry, Arvin is kind enough to not make you wash dishes through the afternoon to pay for what you eat. He usually lets you help him with the cooking process, be it chopping or putting together some salad dressing.
Nobody goes hungry at this restaurant😋

This tiny place in Earlsfield has become London’s new favorite restaurant scoring a rating of 273 stars out of 281 on TripAdvisor. Through the restaurant, Arvin is consciously standing up for food wastage and he fails to understand why other restaurants in London don’t use a similar approach to feed homeless people.
The restaurant usually sees a lot of college students and neighborhood locals come in to lend a hand and enjoy clean, soul food. Arvin also doubles as the head chef and you can see him sauteing his way in the kitchen.
As told to BBC Breakfast, Arvin’s words sum up the philosophy of Amrutha lounge. “If anyone wants to come in and give a bit of their time, we’ll give them food. It’s nice to open your doors and welcome people in like that… We use this as a place where we can plant a seed and inspire people.”
Amrutha Lounge has beaten over 18,000 restaurants in London for the first spot but what truly matters to the owners is the relationship that they have built with the community. Therein lies the foundation for the work they do and the people they serve.
