But that is not the news, the news is that a PhD student from Pune has discovered a megalithic site. Yes, you read that right. This megalithic site is 2,600 years old and is found in Maharashtra’s Wardha district. He discovered this while setting out for field work in Khairwada.
Megalithic Site Found By PhD Student
Oshin Bamb, a 25-year-old PhD student, found a 2,600-year-old megalithic site in Wardha. This site and its exploration have brought in once a thriving agrarian community in limelight, Yesamba.
Oshin said that this site should be immediately conserved, and efforts should be made by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and local administration. He was pursuing an MA and its dissertation in March 2022 and went for an ethnographic field survey in Khairwada.
He was informed by the locals about some distinct circular structures in Yesamba. After visiting the place and discovering it, he got to know how this place has been hidden for so many years. Oshin studies at the Deccan College Postgraduate and Research Institute.

The Period Coincided With The Iron Age
One of the typical characteristics of the Megalithic period is the use of large stones and boulders. The communities living near this site used basic iron tools for agriculture. This is because the megalithic period coincided with the Iron Age.
India is home to many megalithic sites in the central region, especially in Vidarbha. In fact, Khairwada alone has 1,500 megalithic burial sites in India.
According to a recent paper about Yesamba by Oshin that was published in the Journal of History, Archaeology, and Architecture, the modern village of Yesamba appears to have been established upon the ancient habitation, which is now a gram panchayat in the Wardha taluka. (As per The Indian Express)
