Pizza Is A Healthier & More Balanced Breakfast Option Than Cereal Says Nutritionist & Here’s Why

pizza healthier than cereal

Did you ever imagine reading ‘healthy’ and ‘pizza’ in the same sentence? We sure didn’t! As it turns out, pizza is actually a healthier and more balanced breakfast option than many cereals available in the market. This claim is backed by Nutritionist Chelsey Amer who pointed out that “a slice of pizza has nearly the same amount of calories as a bowl of cereal and milk.” As wild as this sounds, she does have very good reasoning behind this claim, read on to find out!

As per nutritionist Chelsey Amer, a slice of pizza can be a more balanced and healthy breakfast option than most breakfast cereals with whole milk. In an interview with The Daily Meal, she said, “You may be surprised to find out that an average slice of pizza and a bowl of cereal with whole milk contain nearly the same amount of calories.”

So, does that make pizza a good breakfast option? Nope! In her claim, Chelsey mentions that pizza is a “more balanced” breakfast option as compared to the many sugar-loaded breakfast cereals available in the market. She said, “Pizza packs a much larger protein punch, which will keep you full and boost satiety throughout the morning.”

Why Cereals Aren’t As Good As We Think

It has been noted that many cereals available in the market are high in carbohydrates but low in fibre and protein. This can cause a quicker feeling of hunger and make you feel less energetic. Pizza, on the other hand, is high in protein (thanks to the cheese & sometimes meat) and can be made healthy by adding better toppings. Again, proving that pizza is healthier than cereal for breakfast.

Also, the high sugar content in cereals available in the market leads to rapid increase and subsequent crash in blood sugar levels. In comparison, pizza has less sugar and provides more stable energy when consumed. There are some good and healthy cereal options in the market, and choosing that can help with this issue.

Please remember, our intent with this article is not to ask you to ditch cereals or have pizza for breakfast! This information is just to make you aware and urge you to make better choices while choosing your food. Instead of sugary cereals, go for the ones that have better ingredients and less sugar. Also, if you do wish to have pizza for breakfast, go for it! But do try to have healthier ones instead of the greasy options usually available in the market.
