Is Fruits With Overnight Soaked Oats A Healthy Breakfast Option? Here’s What Nutritionist Says

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and we should never skip it, no matter how busy we are. Mornings are mostly very hectic for many people. During such a short time, one of the best and power-packed breakfast options is overnight soaked oats. It takes only 1 or 2 steps to prepare this breakfast and simply put it inside the refrigerator to enjoy it the next morning. But is it good for your health?

This Is Why You Should Avoid Adding Fruits To Overnight Soaked Oats

Taking to Instagram, Leema Mahajan |Nutritionist (@leemamahajan) shared some helpful information about consuming overnight oats for breakfast.

The recipe to make overnight oats for breakfast is so simple that even beginners can prepare it easily. All you need to do is soak oats in a bowl of milk in a proper ratio along with some nuts. Stir everything and store the container inside the refrigerator. Many health-conscious people top the yummy breakfast with fruit slices and enjoy. This enhances the taste, adds sweetness, and is believed to make the bowl of oats healthier. But do fruits actually make overnight oats more nutritious or is it just one of the many breakfast myths?

Nutritionist Leema Mahajan explained beautifully how we could eat a bowl of healthy overnight soaked oats without spiking our sugar levels. But for that, it is important to skip the slices of fresh and juicy fruits along with oats. Here’s what the nutritionist suggested.

Overnight oats are a great breakfast option only when relished with proper ingredients. Many of us use instant oats that already have a high glycemic index. This type of oats soaked with milk and topped with fruits such as bananas, mangoes, or any fruit with high sugar can increase our sugar levels. This rise signals the pancreas to release more insulin leading to a quick sugar spike. All these make everyone feel lazy and fatigued and crave more sweet treats.

  • A good alternative for instant oats and fruits is using rolled oats soaked in high-quality dairy milk or even a bowl of yogurt.
  • If you do like or drink dairy milk, vegan options such as nut milk are a great option as well.
  • For topping the bowl of soaked oats, choose a good source of protein.
  • For protein options, the nutritionist suggested taking boiled eggs, chia seeds, protein scoop, and sauteed paneer in the comments.
  • Also, she shared she would prefer adding nuts and seeds and skip using fruits.
