In case you weren’t aware, Japan is currently hosting the G7 Summit. G7 stands for Group of Seven and it is an intergovernmental forum that consists of seven countries. The summit is organised around the themes of shared values such as representative government and pluralism. Recently, PM Modi visited Japan as part of the summit. As an emblem of good relations between India and Japan, gifted the country with a bust of Mahatma Gandhi which was placed in Hiroshima. Here’s all you need to know about it!

- The bust was a gift from India to Japan as a symbol of good relations between the two countries.
- It is placed in Hiroshima, which is the world’s first site of a Nuclear attack.
- The bust is 42 inches tall and made of bronze.
- It is sculpted by Ram Vanji Sutar, who is a Padma Bhushan Award winner.
- The site of the bust is adjacent to Motoyasu River, near the A-Bomb Dome.
- It was unveiled on the 20th of May, 2023.
- The location of the bust was chosen as a mark of solidarity, non-violence and peace.

About The G7 Summit In Japan
In a speech during the unveiling of the bust, Modi said that this particular statue will serve as a reminder of the ideals of peace and harmony. He also went on to mention that the world, even today, gets frightened of the word “Hiroshima.”
On the 6th of August, 1945, the United States of America or the US dropped the Atomic bomb on the Japanese region of Hiroshima. This fateful incident led to the death of more than 140,000 people. It is still one of the most heinous incidents that humanity has ever witnessed.
The G7 consists of the US, the United Kingdom or the UK, Canada, France, Japan, Italy, and Germany. The European Union is a non-enumerated member of the G7. It is a forum where governments tackle global problems like climate change.
