PM Modi Visits Kashi Vishwanath In Varanasi For Dev Diwali; Watches Kashi Light Up

Prime Minister Narendra Modi just had his first visit to his parliamentary constituency Varanasi amid Covid-19 pandemic. The Prime Minister lit a lamp at Varanasi’s Raj Ghat during the Dev Diwali. It’s an annual festival of light and fervour celebrated on the full moon of the Hindu month of Kartik 15 days after Diwali. On the occasion of Dev Diwali, the stairs at the ghat were decorated with flowers and artists created rangolis and painted pots.

15 Lakh Earthen Pots Lit On The Ghats Of Ganga

Some 15 lakh earthen lamps were lit on the ghats of Ganga to mark the beginning of celebrations of Kartik Purnima. Many classical dancers also performed during the event. Dev Diwali is meant to be a celebratory function after Diwali when a large number of lamps are lit on the banks of rivers and other ghats on Kartik Purnima. PM Modi Also Inaugurated A Six-Lane Highway Project

Before the ceremony at Raj Ghat, PM Modi offered prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple flanked by Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath. The prime minister also inaugurated the six-lane widening project of Handia (Prayagraj) to Rajatalab (Varanasi) section of National Highway 19.  4000-Year-Old Shivling Discovered At Bhabhaniyav Village Near Varanasi.

The six-lane project is expected to reduce the travel time between Prayagraj and Varanasi by an hour. The 73-kilometre stretch of the new lane is built with a total outlay of  2,447 crores.
