The journey from Worli to Marine Drive along Mumbai’s coastal road captures the very essence of this dynamic city. Mumbai residents, the project to build the coastal road is already 84% complete! On February 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open a portion of the city’s coastline route, running from Marine Drive to Bindumadhav Thackeray Chowk in Worli.
Modi To Inaugurate Mumbai Coastal Road Partially
On February 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the groundwork for the Goregaon-Mulund link road and open the first section of the Mumbai coastal route. One day following the PM’s inauguration, the 10-kilometer, four-lane section of the coastal road that runs south from Worli to Marine Drive will be accessible to the general public. The nine-kilometer section will be accessible to the public on February 20 following the inauguration.
The coastal route that links Marine Drive to Bandra Worli Sea Link is a project of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The first underwater tunnel in the nation, measuring 2.072 kilometres, would be located on the section of the four-lane road that heads south. 84% of the principal construction has been done with the remaining portion scheduled for completion by May. Motorists would be able to cover the Worli to Marine Drive section in 10 minutes, down from the 40-45 minutes it currently takes.
According to a Times Of India article, the PM is also anticipated to perform bhoomipujan for the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) tunnel boring operations. He is to officially open the trial run of the Aarey-BKC underground Metro 3 line, which is being carried out by Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd.

BEST Buses Will Also Run On It
In addition, officials have chosen to operate BEST buses on the seaside road, with eight bus stations identified thus far, for the convenience of the general people. Only for 12 hours will Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport (BEST) buses operate on the Mumbai coastline road. According to sources, BEST will have eight stops to offer consumers smooth and effective public transit. Additionally, they will reserve BEST buses and emergency vehicles for usage of the fourth lane on the Mumbai coastline road. On the other hand, the road will stay blocked on Saturdays and Sundays, according to the available information.
For the safety of both cars and passengers, a speed limit of 80 to 100 km/h has been set for this route. Additionally, the authorities have chosen to install 30 video incident detection devices and 24 CCTV cameras.
