1. To Be Fully Operational From December 2025

According to an article which was recently published by Construction World, the Mumbai Coastal Road Project is on track for completion by the end of the next year. This will have a significant impact on transportation within the country.

2. The First Phase Has Reached Close To 85 Per Cent Completion

The first phase of this ambitious new project is close to 85 per cent completion. This first phase will stretch from Marine Drive to Worli. What is more, this particular project cost a total of ₹13,984 crores.

3. Mumbai Coastal Road Project To Be Inaugurated On February 9

According to an article which was recently published by The Times Of India or TOI, the first phase will be inaugurated on February 9. Hence, it is racing against the clock to complete the carriageway. As of now, the final layers of the road are being laid and other ancillary tasks like installing electric poles are being done.

4. Prime Minister Narendra Modi To Inaugurate The Carriageway

Once the carriageway is fully completed, it will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister of the country, Narendra Modi, on February 9. As of now, the plan is to keep it open from 8 AM to 8 PM. It will be closed on the weekends to complete the rest of the work.

5. Will Reduce Travel Time Between Worli And Marine Drive

Once completed, this carriageway will significantly reduce the travel time between Worli and Marine Drive. Where now it takes more than half an hour, it will take a mere ten minutes to cover the same distance.

6. Coastal Road Promenade May Feature Recreational Space

According to an article which was recently published by The Indian Express, the promenade for the Mumbai Coastal Road Project may also have recreational spaces. The promenade will stretch across 75 kilometres and will be lined with palm trees and bushes.

It is aimed at modelling a Hong Kong-based concept and will have five green pockets which have been proposed. It will also have a cycling track and around 11 pedestrian underpasses.

7. BEST Buses Will Also Be Allowed On The MTHL But…

If reports are to go by, then the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport or BEST buses will be allowed to ply on the coastal road. The fourth lane on the eight-lane road will be reserved for buses. There will also be a total of eight bus stops dotting the highway.

However, the buses will only be allowed to ply on the road for twelve hours. What is more, the road will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
