When we are talking about some of the most sought-after brands among fashionistas, Zara definitely comes to mind. But have you ever walked into a Zara store and spotted a hospital gown? No, right? But now, the brand is shifting from its mainstream high-on-trend styles and planning to make apparels for the hospital staffs working in its homeland, Spain and treating coronavirus patients.
Fashion At The Hour Of Need
With 42,058 cases and 2,991 deaths, Spain is one of those European countries that are worst hit by COVID-19, apart from Italy. Zara is increasing its textile capacity in Spain to roll out hospital masks, scrubs, goggles, gloves and caps to cater to the necessity of the moment. As per sources, the brand has already donated 10,000 masks and another 300,000 will be distributed soon.
Other Brands Serving The Cause
Other than Zara, some other big players of the fashion industry are also pitching in to provide assistance to meet the overwhelming demand of medical-grade masks, gloves and other essentials. Fashion stalwart Brandon Maxwell, who has also worked with Lady Gaga, has announced over Twitter and Instagram that his team is working on producing supplies like gowns for healthcare workers. Christian Siriano has also been guiding his team to sew masks and gowns for doctors, nurses and patients.

New Zealand based footwear label Allbirds has donated $500,000 in shoes to medical staff working across the country. It has even come up with a Buy 1 Give 1 option, urging customers to purchase one pair for themselves and donate the other. Another NY-based brand, Gladson is giving out medical-grade cotton fabric to sewers, clothiers and designers to generate one million masks.
Top-notch Italian fashion brand Prada is also creating 110,000 masks and 80,000 medical overalls at its factory in Montone. Italy to assist the heath-workers. Companies like Kering, L’Oréal, LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton and Coty are also making hand sanitizers, which they are distributing for free to the health authorities.
