First opened in 1921, this exquisitely charming place was named ‘Elite’ back then. Located in a prime spot of Porte, this place was constantly buzzing with people. After a few decades of extraordinary functioning, the charm of the place fell apart and the state remained unchanged for around three decades after that. However, its impressive architecture by Portuguese architect Joao Queiroz and stunning design led to its classification as a Building of Public Interest in 1981. With renovations starting in 1992, it was restored to the beauty it is today in the span of two years. Majestic Cafe, as we know it today, is a portrayal of extravagance and history, making it a must-visit place for everyone planning a trip to Portugal.

Majestic Cafe Is A 100-Year-Old Cafe In Portugal

While the place was charming when it first opened about a century ago, today it sure feels like a museum. Once you step inside the cafe, it will feel like you have travelled back into old times. Such feelings have turned this cafe into a hot spot for tourists. With high ceilings and lavish spaces, the place is one of its kind and people don’t mind standing in queues for a cup of coffee.

Even though it is an eatery, people visit it more for the ambience and the structure as a whole instead of the coffee and food. The area around the cafe has turned into a shopping hub over time. The streets are full of restaurants, jewellery stores, boutiques and more that keep attracting tourists. But, Majestic Cafe continues to be the foremost place of interest for first-time visitors.

To say the least, this is definitely not an economically priced place. Especially for those visiting as tourists, there are plenty of other eateries nearby to satiate your hunger. However, none of them come with an ambience this extravagant. Their set-up and vintage feel are definitely worth the hype!

And if there is one thing you must try from their menu, it has to be their port wine. Cappuccinos and toasts served in elegant silverware definitely add to the posh feel exuded by this old cafe which has an old-world charm no one should miss out on.
