A strong earthquake scared people in Southern California on Monday. It was during the afternoon hours when an earthquake of 4.4 magnitude hit near Los Angeles on August 12, 2024, leaving many baffled and fearful. People living miles away from the epicentre felt the frightening tremors and noticed things swinging around them. According to multiple reports circulating online, many residents felt the tremors in their homes.

X user ZoomCenter (@ZoomCenter) shared necessary updates about the recent quake just two miles from South Pasadena.
The recent earthquake reported near Los Angeles jolted outside of Pasadena. It was around 12:20 PST on Monday (12:50 AM Tuesday) when it struck the epicentre, El Sereno, close to the famous Highland Park. According to information shared by the United States Geological Survey, the epicentre was near the Griffith Observatory and the iconic Hollywood sign. Millions of people could experience the shocking quake as it rattled several places in Southern California.
From Los Angeles to Glendale to Pasadena, residents and tourists felt tremors even after being miles away. According to a report by BBC, it was initially considered to be an earthquake of 4.7 magnitude. Later, the United States Geological Survey corrected the estimation and announced it to be a 4.4 magnitude earthquake.
Taking to X, techsourcex (@techsourcex) shared a clip showing live footage of the quake.
Unfortunately, this was not a sudden occurrence in the location of the quake. Multiple earthquakes ranging between magnitudes of 4 and 5 reportedly struck there in the past few weeks. People could experience the aftershock in Bakersfield, Joshua Tree National Park, and San Diego, the United States Geological Survey shared.

No Injuries Reported
X user Jacqueline Rice (@jacquelinerice_) recorded a video of experiencing the earthquake.
Though it was a powerful earthquake and tremors were felt many miles away, the good news is that there have been no reports of people sustaining injuries. Also, there have been no complaints about aftershocks causing damage. The United States Geological Survey also updated about no tsunami alerts.
