Friday morning began on an unexpected and unfortunate note for residents and tourists in Sikkim’s Soreng. Tremors reportedly hit the scenic town early in the morning. An earthquake of 4.4 magnitude on the Richter scale jolted Soreng on August 9. What are the recent updates following the incident? Are any injuries or damages reported? An Earthquake Jolted Soreng In Sikkim

Taking to the X platform, the National Center for Seismology (@NCS_Earthquake) shared detailed information about the recent tremors felt in Soreng.

According to the nodal agency to monitor earthquake activity in India, the recent earthquake’s epicentre was located at a Latitude of 27.22 North and a Longitude of 88.33 East. It hit Soreng at a depth of 10 km. It was at 6:57 AM when the tremors were felt here. The National Center for Seismology shared, “EQ of M: 4.4, On: 09/08/2024 06:57:08 IST, Lat: 27.22 N, Long: 88.33 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Soreng, Sikkim.”

Recent Earthquakes In Imphal East & Meghalaya

An earthquake of 3.1 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Imphal East in Manipur on August 6 at 9:10 AM. According to necessary updates shared by the National Center for Seismology, its epicentre was at Latitude 24.71 North and Longitude 94.03 East with a depth of 39 km. No incidents of any damage or injuries were reported in Imphal East.

Taking to X, the National Center for Seismology wrote, “EQ of M: 3.1, On: 06/08/2024 09:10:52 IST, Lat: 24.71 N, Long: 94.03 E, Depth: 39 Km, Location: Imphal East, Manipur.”

Another place in Northeast India that witnessed an earthquake recently is Ri Bhoi in Meghalaya. An earthquake of 2.9 magnitude was reported here on August 6 at 4:57 AM. Its epicentre was at Latitude 25.85 North and Longitude 91.97 East with a depth of 10 km.
