Prince Edward Visits The Gallery Of Indian Revolutionaries In Mumbai
In 2016, a subterranean bunker from the British era was found inside the Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. Constructed before The First World War, it was abandoned for almost 60 years. Now called ‘Kranti Gatha’, it has been transformed into a Gallery of Indian Revolutionaries from Maharashtra and the rest of the nation. Numerous paintings, busts, and murals of well-known and lesser-known revolutionaries can be found in the gallery. Dr. Vikram Sampath, a writer and historian, oversaw its curation.
The youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, and the youngest brother of King Charles III, Prince Edward, began the tour with a view of the sea from the Raj Bhavan lawn, according to an official statement. The lawn was used for an event in 1980, honouring the then-Prince of Wales and his brother, King Charles.
He Tours Jal Kiran, Jal Vihar And Jal Lakshan In Mumbai
Prince Edward saw the historic ‘Jal Kiran’ guest house and the ‘Jal Vihar’ state banquet hall with Pravin Darade, the governor’s principal secretary, and Umesh Kashikar, the public relations officer. The Ashoka Lions of India are moulded into the arched ceilings of Jal Vihar. Priceless Persian carpets with old motifs reminiscent of the Mughal Empire have been used to cover the floors.
Additionally, Prince Edward visited the ‘Jal Lakshan’. It is a VIP guest residence typically reserved for India’s president and prime minister, according to an official release from Raj Bhavan. It houses a collection of portraits of Maratha rulers. During their 1961 visit to Mumbai, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, were notably asked to stay at this guest home. The Duke was accompanied by John Nickell, Head of the Political and Bilateral Affairs Department, Alex Potts, the Duke’s Private Secretary, and British Deputy High Commissioner Harjinder Kang.
