A potential 3 day weekend for the residents of UAE as the holiday for Hijri New Year will fall on the 1st of September which is a Sunday. The Federal Authorities of UAE announced this holiday on Monday. The statement released on Twitter by the Federal For Government Human Resources (FAHR) states Muharram 1, 1441 as a holiday for public and government sectors.

The Islamic New Year is expected to begin on the first day of September which is a Sunday and hence the residents get a 3 day holiday. The occasion marks the migration of Prophet Mohammed along with his companions and they started from Mecca to Madinan 1,114 years ago. This marks as the establishment of the very first community based on the teachings of Islam.

The word Hijri is derived from Hijrah which is an Arabic word which means migration. It marks the migration of Prophet Mohammad 14 centuries ago. The hotels and restaurants in UAE will not be serving alcohol on September 20th and 21st as it marks the Islamic New Year.
