Pune Airport will be renamed after Sant Tukaram Maharaj. Born in the 17th century, Tukaram Maharaj was a Hindu saint and poet from Maharashtra. It is believed that he played a key role in the Bhakti Movement. His famous poetry style, Abhanga, is quite famous in the state. His poetry dealt with several social reforms at that time.

As per Murlidhar Mohol’s proposal, Sant Tukaram Maharaj’s mother was from Lohegaon. While Tukaram Maharaj was born in Dehu, near Pune, it is believed that the famous saint spent a large part of his childhood in this region. And that’s why the idea to rename the airport was proposed.
