Heavy Rain Lashes Mumbai; Pune Faces Red Alert As IMD Issues Warning Across Maharashtra

Mumbai once again woke up to heavy overnight rain and thunderstorms on September 15. The city is reeling under severe waterlogging and traffic snarls across several low-lying areas. The IMD has placed Mumbai under a yellow alert until September 16. Not only that, Pune is also under red alert due to incessant rain. Here are the latest updates.

Overnight Heavy Rain Brings Mumbai To A Halt

This year, the monsoon has been relentless in Mumbai. Heavy rain lashed the city once again overnight, leaving major areas waterlogged and traffic badly disrupted. According to a report by Live Mint, South-Central Mumbai saw particularly intense downpours in the early hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has now placed the city under a yellow alert. More thunderstorms are expected throughout September 15, with the warning to stay in effect until Tuesday, September 16. Traffic Snarls In The City

As per the same report, heavy rain has disrupted traffic in several parts of Mumbai, with commuters stuck in a jam at Andheri Subway (Andheri West). Approximately one and a half feet of rainwater accumulated there, forcing a complete closure. Vehicles are now being redirected via Gokhale Bridge. IMD is urging residents to avoid waterlogged and low-lying areas due to severe congestion. People are also being advised not to take shelter under trees or weak structures.

However, Mumbai is not the only city affected. Pune was battered by heavy rain and thunderstorms on Sunday night, along with lightning. The IMD issued a red alert for Pune at 4 am on Monday. Reportedly, Solapur and Ahmednagar were also put under red alerts, while Thane and Raigad remain under orange alerts.

These alerts for heavy rain will remain in place until the situation gets under control. Until then, residents should stay cautious and avoid stepping out unnecessarily.
