Renowned Indian author and philanthropist, Sudha Murty, is not one to mince her words. The witty author who is a big foodie recently joked on The Kapil Sharma Show that the reason her husband, Infosys founder, Narayana Murthy, weighs the same since they got married is all thanks to her “poor’ cooking skills. And now, Sudha Murty, a pure vegetarian, revealed that she carries her own food and utensils when travelling abroad.
Sudha Murty Carries Ready-To-Eat Food When Travelling Abroad
Sudha Murty recently graced her presence on food writer and TV personality Kunal Vijayakar’s show, Khaane Mein Kya Hai. The duo feasted on an authentic South Indian banana leaf thali at By 2 Coffee-Bhojana Shale in Bengaluru’s Vijaynagara. As Sudha Murty and Kunal Vijayakar feasted on rice, sambar, holige and more, had an interesting chat.
The author and philanthropist revealed to Kunal Vijayakar that she is adventurous in her work. But not food. Being a pure vegetarian, she doesn’t eat eggs and garlic. And she is petrified of restaurants using the same spoon for veg and non-veg cooking. So, she carries her own bag filled with eatables and ready-to-eat packets like poha with her when travelling abroad. Sudha Murty also takes along a small cooker so that she can prepare her own food during her trips.

Funnily enough, the author states that 60 years ago, she would jokingly tease her grandmother for doing the same. She’d often encourage her granny to eat out instead of carrying her own food. But now, she admits to behaving like her. No matter which country Sudha Murty travels to, her food bag from India travels with her.

She Loves Kolkata’s Sandesh & Kashmir’s Dum Aloo
But she is also open to visiting vegetarian restaurants abroad and dining there. her favourite dishes include Gujarat’s dhokla, Kolhapur’s basundi, Rajasthan’s jalebi, Pune’s shrikhand, Kolkata’s sandesh, Tripura’s pineapples, Kashmir’s dum aloo. On the show, she also introduced Kunal Vijayakar to tambuli— a refreshing dish made of buttermilk, coconut, spices and an uncooked veggie.
