Purple Line Extension: Namma Metro May Cover KR Puram To Whitefield In 12 Minutes

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has planned to launch the KR Puram Whitefield Metro Purple line extension in March 2023. They are on the final leg of their journey on the line, which covered the distance between KR Puram and Whitefield in 12 minutes at its top speed of 80 kmph. Namma Metro: KR Puram To Whitefield In 12 Minutes

The Namma Metro officials said that the train covered the 13 Kms stretch from KR Puram to Whitefield in just 12 minutes. On Sunday. At 11 am the high speed trial runs were started. The train ran at the maximum permissible speed of 80 kmph and reached its destination in no time. About 50 officials, including people from Signalling, Rolling Stone, Traction, and Track Teams, were onboard when the train reached its maximum speed. 

An official from Namma Metro informed that the trial was conducted without any stoppages between KR Puram and Whitefield. This means that a few more minutes will be added to the journey time once it commences for commercial operations. BMRCL managing director Anjum Parwez said that since there are 12 stations on this route, the time for travel might increase from 12 to 24 minutes.

Three Rounds Of Trial Were Conducted

About three rounds were conducted on the route of this new Purple Line extension between 11 am and 3:30 pm. Until Saturday, the trains were travelling at a speed of 25 kilometres per hour. During the three rounds of the trial, the first round was at a speed of 40 kmph, the second one was at 60 kmph, and the third one was at a speed of 80 kmph. All safety parameters, both in the metro and at the station, were thoroughly checked.

 The new line will have five sets of six-coach trains during its first commercial operation. All the trains will run with a difference of 10 minutes. As a nod from the Safety Commissioner is very much necessary, the BMRCL has invited the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety after February 15.
