The Qantas Group has today announced Vanessa Hudson will become the next CEO and Managing Director, taking over from Alan Joyce when he retires in November 2023.

Vanessa Hudson, the new Chief Executive Officer of Qantas Airways, is set to resume her role in November. According to a report by The Sydney Morning Herald, her base salary will be $1.6 million. In addition to this, she is said to receive an incentive in millions of dollars if the carrier meets its targets.
If the company meets its operational and share price goals, Hudson’s take-home compensation could be up to or greater than $5.8 million. Additionally, she will be eligible for 12 short-haul excursions and four long-haul trips per year.
At the annual general meeting in November, the company’s shareholders vote on the chief executive’s compensation. Since Alan Joyce took over the airline in 2008, the shareholders have approved Joyce’s compensation. Hudson’s basic pay will be 25 per cent less than outgoing head Joyce’s $2.2 million salary and her target total compensation will be roughly 30 per cent less than his $8.4 million.
Joyce began his 15-year career in 2008 on a $2 million salary, which was 24per cent less than his predecessor, Geoff Dixon.
