Qatar Gets First-Ever Air Conditioned Jogging Track At Al Gharrafa Park

The Supervisory Committee for the Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar announced the opening of Al Gharrafa Park on Thursday, December 16, 2021, in a tweet.

Children with Special Needs from Shafallah Center participated in the event planting trees for Qatar Beautification and the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places’ Kids Planting Trees campaign. Al-Gharrafa Park, located in the Al-Gharrafa region on approximately 50,0002mt of land, is a new central park that serves people of all ages from Al-Gharrafa, Gharrafat Al-Rayyan, Izghawa, Al-Luqta, and Al-Rayyan.

The First-Ever Air-Conditioned Pedestrian Bridge Is Located In Al Gharrafa Park

Al Gharrafa Park features the world’s first air-conditioned pedestrian and jogging tracks, as well as another cyclist track, with an integrated cooling and air-conditioning system that maintains an ideal temperature of 26°C to 28°C while saving 50% on operating expenses.

The System Is Designed To Ensure That Environmental Elements Are Used

The system is based on a design that makes use of natural elements such as trees and climber’s veins to help circulate cold air, reduce leakage, and keep cold air inside the track, lowering the temperature by 10°C without the need for mechanical intervention or the installation of modified air conditioning.

The 657m of air-conditioned pedestrian tracks are housed in Islamic Mashrabiya-style constructions that allow air conditioners to circulate. If the ambient temperature does not exceed 37°C, a solar panel cover generates electricity to power the air conditioners.

Climbing plants provide extra shade, lowering the temperature by 10 degrees Celsius. They also aid in reducing cold air leakage and circulating it to keep the needed temperature at an affordable level.
