Our latest Sunday Brunch was a feast for both the palate and the mind as our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, sat down with the Hisaab Barabar trio — R. Madhavan, Neil Nitin Mukesh, and Kirti Kulhari — for a chat that was equal parts delicious and insightful. From their go-to comfort foods to financial wisdom, the conversation was filled with personal anecdotes, cooking tips, and a dash of nostalgia. Read on to discover their culinary favourites and financial takeaways!
R. Madhavan Shared His Favourite Kolkata Egg Roll Recipe!
In a lively conversation with host Kamiya Jani, the Hisaab Barabar cast, including R. Madhavan, Neil, and Kirti, shared their favourite quick bites that are a must-try at home. Maddy kicks things off with the Kolkata egg roll, a simple yet delicious treat.
He explains that the key to this dish is the combination of thinly sliced onions marinated with lemon, salt, and chaat masala, paired with paratha and a perfectly cooked egg. The magic happens when the egg is cooked together with the paratha, not separately, creating a rich, savoury base. Once you add the marinated onions, chopped green chillies, and a drizzle of tomato ketchup, you’ve got the perfect street food snack.
Kirti, on the other hand, reveals her love for oats chilla, a hearty breakfast she swears by. By mixing oats with a bit of semolina, chopped onions, coriander, and green chillies, she makes a healthy, satisfying dish. Neil, on the other hand, keeps things simple with his preference for sunny-side-up eggs served with toast or oats, finding satisfaction in breaking the egg for the final touch. Their banter brings a mouth-watering mix of comfort foods and cooking tips.
Neil On Playing Mickey Mehta And Financial Wisdom
The Hisaab Barabar cast members Maddy, Neil, and Kirti also delved into the complexities of their characters and the themes of their latest release. Neil, who plays the role of Mickey Mehta, shared his perspective on the negative role he’s portraying.
“I truly identify with him, and I believe many people would because, despite our external influences, deep down, we are all quite conservative in our thought processes, shaped by how we were brought up.” He reflected on the evolution of financial values, from saving in gold to embracing plastic money while emphasising the importance of living within one’s means.
Neil also shared a personal anecdote about his father’s wise advice, which has guided his approach to life and spending: “You are the king of your house, no matter its size, but you should live within your means and enjoy life responsibly.”
He expressed his belief that money, like energy, flows through those who manage it wisely, advocating for a balanced approach — spending within one’s capacity while pursuing success with focus and integrity. His reflections tied into broader themes of wisdom and knowledge, stressing that true wisdom comes from aligning one’s instincts with acquired knowledge.
