Randeep Hooda and Lin Laishram’s wedding was a beautiful blend of love, tradition, and cultural surprises. In this special Sunday Brunch episode with our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, they shared how Randeep honoured Manipuri customs by becoming the ideal groom and embracing the bride’s traditions. But beyond their wedding, Randeep opened up about breaking stereotypes in cinema and exploring diverse roles. From love to films, this conversation is a heartwarming dive into their journey together.

Randeep and Lin’s Unique Wedding Journey

In an insightful conversation with Kamiya Jani, Randeep and his wife Lin shared the unique experience of their wedding, which was marked by cultural immersion and unexpected moments. Despite security concerns and warnings from their families due to a period of unrest in the state, Randeep insisted that the ceremony take place in Manipur, albeit with a small procession of just a handful of people.

The ceremony itself was a whirlwind of cultural surprises, from visiting a temple where Randeep was gifted a horse to wearing a dhoti and kurta with the help of his family. Amidst the traditions, Randeep had to stay still and composed during the ceremony to ensure his turban remained in place, a task that seemed both daunting and amusing.

Another noteworthy tradition observed was that the bride, Lin, only takes pheras in front of the Tulsi (not fire), a symbolic and meaningful gesture in Manipuri weddings, representing purity, longevity, and spiritual connection. Randeep reflected on how cultural traditions and rituals played a meaningful role in his marriage journey, connecting him to tribal, Northeastern, and Hindu customs.

Randeep Hooda On Breaking Stereotypes

During the conversation, Randeep reflected on his diverse film choices, highlighting his role in a project (Laal Rang) deeply rooted in Haryanvi culture. He also noted how rare it was for him to play characters from his own background, despite early advice warning against being typecast. Rejecting such limitations, he made a conscious effort to diversify his roles, even venturing into Hollywood.
