In a candid conversation with Curly Tales on the latest episode of Tere Gully Mein, Ridhi Dogra reminisced about her college days at Kamala Nehru College in Delhi. She even shared her favourite spots in GK M-Block Market and talked about her journey in Bollywood. It’s a dream of every actress to be cast opposite the king of romance, Shah Rukh Khan. And for Ridhi, this dream did come true, but with a twist. She opened up about why she took on the role of playing Shah Rukh Khan’s mother at a very young age and what motivated her to take up this unusual role. Read on to learn all about it.
Ridhi Dogra Calls Herself A ‘Psycho’ For Unusual Role In Jawan
Ridhi revealed that despite being a psychology student, she ended up in the acting industry because of her uncle. She used to visit sets with him, so she was already familiar with the world of acting. However, her background in psychology continues to help her to this day; she doesn’t judge the characters she plays and always maintains a neutral perspective. The conversation then turned to her role in Jawan, to which she humorously replied, “She is a psycho in psychology!” Ridhi Dogra always dreamt of being romantically paired opposite Shah Rukh Khan, but destiny had different plans for her. Her understanding of the characters and story through psychology even influenced her decision to take on the role of SRK’s mother in the film Jawan, a choice that surprised many of her fans.
When asked why she took up the role of a mother at such a young age, something many other actresses might have declined, she responded, “There is no answer; I am crazy. One reason was that I’m mad, and the other is that I felt like it’s one life, and we’ve grown up watching Shah Rukh. When I was 7 or 8, 9 or 10, he was in his twenties, and I always thought, ‘Will it ever be possible to be romantically paired opposite him?’ And then I said, ‘Screw it, let’s do it.’’ She clarified that she didn’t actually play the role of SRK’s mother but his guardian, while Deepika Padukone portrayed his mother in the film.

Initially, She Denied Taking Up The Role
Ridhi Dogra feels very secure in herself and doesn’t overthink after taking up such roles, believing it takes guts to do so. She went on to share that, initially, when approached by the team, she declined the offer. However, when the director reached out to her again, she gave it some thought and agreed to give it a try.
She said, “Unhone mujhe wapas bulaya aur kaha ki, aap aao, hum aapko achhe se samjhate hain. Aur yehi ek intriguing factor tha, ki itni young ladki ek older role kyun play kar rahi hai? Aur jo confusion aapko feel hua, wahi audience ko actual mein feel karwana tha, that question of why she’s playing this role. And then, when you go into the flashback, you’ll be like, ‘Ohh, now it makes sense.’’ Ridhi Dogra also shared her go-to nostalgic street food spots, where she used to enjoy bhel puris and recalled exploring the lanes of GK M-Block Market, bringing back fond memories of her college days.
