The shooting for Kantara Chapter 1 took place in Karnataka’s Kundapura. For the first phase of the shooting, Rishab Shetty and his team set up a camp in Kundapura, and it was massive, to say the least. The production team of the movie constructed a custom-built indoor set. It was a 200×200-foot set and was called a marvel of technology and a filmmaker’s dreamland!

This sprawling set had air conditioning, a dubbing studio, and an editing suite as well. Basically, everything a film team can need was available inside this indoor set! This set was so massive that its grandeur was compared to that of Ramoji Film City at that time.

While all the outdoor scenes were filmed in forests, the production team of Kantara Chapter 1 decided to shoot the indoor sequences against the coastal setting of Kundapura. They believe the natural beauty of the place complements the narrative.

According to reports, 600 carpenters and technicians from Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad were moved to Kundapura for the construction of the set. That’s not it, the stunt masters were also relocated to Kundapura for the film shooting, while the actors took intense Kalaripayattu and horse riding training. And all this happened under one roof at this set!

The film’s production house, Hombale Films, called the infrastructure “a long-term asset.” They believe this permanent fixture can be “utilised for future projects” and even made “available for rent to other production houses.”

This sprawling set seems like a filmmaker’s dream! What is your take on it? Let us know in the comments!
