A portion of Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1 roof collapsed on Friday morning. The incident happened at 5 AM when the city was hit by heavy rainfall. The canopy-like roof of the Terminal 1 forecourt collapsed on cars, including taxis, and resulted in one casualty and severely injuring six people. Initially, the incident disrupted all flights from Terminal 1 but as per the latest update by the airport authorities, all flights are likely to begin operations by 2 PM.
Roof Collapses At Delhi Airport After Heavy Rainfall
Chaos ensued at Delhi’s IGI Airport on Friday morning when a portion of the roof at Terminal 1 forecourt collapsed at 5 AM. The incident left several cars covered in debris, claimed one life and left at least six people severely injured. Initially, the airport authorities had to also suspend all flight operations at this terminal.
As per the Delhi Fire Services, the roof collapsed on four vehicles, including cabs. According to an NDTV report, the roof sheet and the support beams collapsed due to heavy rain. It fell on the cars parked in the pick-up and drop area of the terminal. The injured people were immediately taken to hospital for medical assistance.

Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu took to Instagram to share that he is monitoring the situation. He even went to inspect the T1 Terminal of Delhi Airport and reviewed it with the officials. He reassured people that all required rescue operations were being conducted at the terminal.

Several videos and photos on X (formerly Twitter) showed how the heavy downpour affected the Delhi Airport. Massive leaks in the canopy-like roof can be seen in many of these videos.

Airport authorities at Delhi’s IGI Airport took to X (formerly Twitter) to tell passengers about the roof collapse at Terminal 1. As per the initial tweet, all flight operations were suspended at Terminal 1 to ensure public safety. However, after a few hours, they declared that several flights from T1 were operational. However, departing flights are suspended till 2 PM today.
