RuPay, India’s homegrown debit, and credit card network now comes to Dubai. This high secured network was officially launched in the UAE on 24th August, in the presence of the Indian Prime Minister.
With the launch, UAE is now the first country in the Gulf to get RuPay. As per the announcement on Sunday, around 175,000 merchant locations of 21 businesses will start accepting RuPay Cards. Moreover, 5,000 ATMs in the UAE will soon start accepting payments from India’s RuPay card.
Where Can It Be Used?
Along with the launch of the event, 21 companies across UAE have pledged to join the RuPay Networks in UAE. These include the travel companies like ITL Group. Moreover, retail groups like Landmark Group, Lulu Group, Apparel Group, and Al Maya Group have pledged their support too. Additionally, Healthcare Groups like Aster and NMC are also set to join the network.
Other groups accepting the card include VPS Healthcare, UPL Group, Conares, Transworld Group, Regal Group of Companies, Emaar & DP world, Allana Group and Jashanmal amongst others.
UAE banks like Emirates NBD, Abu Dhabi Bank, and Bank Of Baroda will also start issuing RuPay Cards in UAE. With more 200 Million RuPay Cards in circulation in India, this move will ensure that RuPay becomes a part of Global Payments Networks. It will bolster RuPay as a Global Payment Network and also ease transactions for Indian tourists in Dubai. Additionally, this will lower the exchange rate costs for tourists in Dubai.
The RuPay Global cards are accepted in over 44 million-plus merchants & 2 million ATM and cash access locations, across 190 countries.
