Fans of BBC’s ‘Race Across the World’ were heartbroken by the news that Sam Gardiner, a former contestant, died in a tragic car accident when his vehicle drove off the A34 at Gatley in Greater Manchester on Monday, May 26.
Sam Gardiner Dies In A Road Accident
As per the news published in Hindustan Times, Sam Gardiner, a former contestant on BBC’s ‘Race Across the World’, died in a car accident after sustaining injuries when his white Volkswagen Golf R veered off the road, flipped, and crashed near Cheadle, Greater Manchester, on Monday, 26 May. According to Greater Manchester Police, Sam Gardiner was the only person in the car at the time of the accident. In a report by Hindustan Times, Sam Gardiner’s family gave an emotional statement to the media. They said, “We are devastated by the loss of our beloved son Sam in a terrible accident. Sam left us far too soon, and whilst words will never fully capture the light, joy and energy he brought into our lives, we hold on to the memories that made him so special.”

They also shared that Sam was a devoted son, funny, and very protective as a brother and nephew. For the uninitiated, Sam Gardiner was a former contestant on “Race Across the World”, a British TV show where teams compete to reach a destination using any transport except air travel. Sam and his mother, Jo Gardiner, appeared on the first season of the show, which premiered in March 2020. The pair won hearts with their close bond as they travelled across Argentina and Mexico.
Sam’s Last Wish Before He Lost His Life In A Car Crash
As per Hindustan Times, Sam Gardiner appeared again in the second season of the show for an interview. During which, he shared a wish for his future. He asked, “How many 19-year-olds can say they’ve done this and travelled with their mum?” He also said that the best thing he wished for was to make happy memories with his mother. In the same interview, he added, “It’s what I’ll be able to live by and tell my kids when I go travelling with them.”
News of his sudden death has left many fans heartbroken. He was just a 24-year-old young man who wanted to travel and make memories with his mum.
