As the end of Ramadan is near, the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque have truly ramped up their efforts to serve the worshippers of the Grand Mosque in Makkah. It was recently revealed that they distribute 2,00,000 Iftar meals every day at this mosque, serving the devotees from across the world.
2,00,000 Iftar Meals Served Daily At The Grand Mosque
As revealed in a report by the Gulf News, this is a large-scale initiative, which is carried out in collaboration with charitable organisations. Every day, 200,000 Iftar meals are being distributed to the worshippers at the Grand Mosque of Mecca. As a result, more than 3,000 staff members and 1,000 volunteers coordinate and oversee the placement of the 3,200 Iftar spreads. Additionally, it extends a combined 50 km across the mosque and of course, its surrounding courtyard as well. Although this is a large number of meals and can be a little messy, the cleanup is completed with remarkable efficiency as well. Just five minutes after sunset, the iftar areas are cleared and cleaned, this allows worshippers to continue their evening prayers.
At this point, it’s worth noting that these operations are carried out while adhering to strict health and organisational standards. And the large number of people visiting the mosque are certainly in for a blessed experience with things being organised in a coordinated way.

These numbers are hardly surprising as it was recently revealed that over 3 million worshippers had gathered at the Grand Mosque on the 22nd day and into the night of the 23rd of the holy month of Ramadan. This made it the largest congregation of the season so far. In fact, according to the figures released by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, Tawfiq Al Rabiah, the Grand Mosque saw a steady flow of worshippers throughout the day. Yes, 5,92,100 worshippers performed Fajr prayer, which was followed by 518,000 at Dhuhr, 5,47,700 at Asr, 7,32,700 for Isha and Taraweeh, and 710,500 at Maghrib. These astounding figures truly show how people are visiting the Grand Mosque in large numbers. Moreover, the total number of pilgrims who entered the mosque through the main gate for Umrah had reached 662,500.
The overwhelming turnout of worshippers is due to the fact that worshippers widely believe that Laylat Al Qadr, which is the Night of Power, can fall on any one of the odd numbered nights during the last 10 nights of Ramadan.
