As the Hajj season is near, the authorities are putting a clear warning to people: watch your bags. The Ministry of Religious Affairs, Bangladesh, has asked pilgrims not to take any banned items during their travel to Saudi Arabia. Even when proposed by another, the wording remains clear-cut. This is applicable to personal property and those items packed by travel agents or third parties.
Hajj 2026: Pilgrims Have Been Warned Not To Carry Forbidden Items
The Saudi law is strict in prohibiting goods. Narcotics, tobacco leaves, jardas, guls, betel leaves, dried fish, cooked food, and other perishable items are not allowed in the luggage.
These regulations are evidently enumerated in the official Hajj Package and Guidelines 2026. Even then, violations occur annually. Certain products might not appear dangerous at home. At the airports, they prove to be a worry.
Consequences, Not Warnings
It is not a standard warning. It does have actual punishments. The Minister of Religious Affairs Kazi Shah Mofazzal Houssain, observed that despite constant warnings, the banned goods are still detected in the luggage. These, he said, damage the image of the country in the eyes of the world.
According to The New Nation, authorities have emphasised that travellers caught with prohibited goods can face severe legal action. That means a fine, imprisonment, or even disqualification from the pilgrimage.
Flights Begin Soon
The emergency is a fact. The pilgrims are estimated to be about 78,500 people from Bangladesh, and the flights will commence on April 18. Little time is left to get lost. The authorities are advising travellers to ensure that they verify all items before travelling.
