Jeddah is known for its rich history and heritage sites that relay the stories of the bygone eras. Now, there is a new museum coming up in this Red Sea city. We are talking about the Red Sea Museum that is all set to open on December 6th in the heart of Historic Jeddah. As mentioned in the report of Travel and Tour World, it has a unique maritime and cultural history. Here’s all you need to know about the upcoming museum!

Red Sea Museum To Open Soon

Coming up in a historical location, this landmark museum would feature more than 1,000 historical artefacts. There will also be seven thematic exhibitions as revealed in the same report. It is expected that the Red Sea Museum may become a major tourist destination in the kingdom once it opens. Located in the UNESCO-listed historical area of Jeddah, the museum will be housed in the iconic Bab Al-Bunt building. The prime location is where the land and sea meet, which symbolises a rich cultural exchange between Saudi Arabia and the rest of the world.

A Cultural Landmark In Jeddah

With the aim of becoming a cultural landmark, the museum celebrates the history, culture, and environment of the Red Sea region. As mentioned in the report, the museum aligns with the Saudi Vision 2030 goals as per the Saudi Ministry of Culture. Yes, it focuses on enhancing the cultural infrastructure while also diversifying the economy through tourism.

Employing cutting-edge technology in research and artefact preservation, you will find collections that aren’t just preserved, but presented in a modern and engaging way. There will also be interactive exhibits that will allow visitors of all ages to engage with the rich content in the museum spread across 23 galleries. The exhibits will highlight the diversity of the cultural and environmental history.

Talking about the seven thematic sections, these are as follows:

  • The History of Bab Al-Bunt, which would allow the visitors to learn about the building’s transformation and its significance as a gateway to Jeddah.
  • The Origins and Cultural Significance of the Red Sea, where the Red Sea’s role will be highlighted in shaping the culture of the region.
  • Navigation Tools and Maps would display historical navigation instruments, which were used by sailors and explorers.
  • Environmental Diversity of the Red Sea Region, which would offer a better look into the unique ecological system of the region.
  • Life in Coastal Communities, where the museum would feature exhibits on the life and traditions of the Red Sea coastal communities.
  • Maritime Trade and Pilgrimage Routes, where the museum will showcase the importance of Resi as a pilgrimage and trade route.
  • Artistic Works Inspired by Red Sea Cultural Exchanges, where people will get to see the art inspired by this.

It Features Rare Artefacts

As it happens, the museum also features rare artefacts like ceramics from China, coral pieces, archival photographs, manuscripts, jewellery, and more. The first temporary exhibition happens to be a gateway of gateways, which will open with the grand opening of the museum.
