Rain battered sections of the nation’s capital on Monday evening, affecting as many as sixteen flights to and from Indira Gandhi International Airport. Weather and air traffic congestion also affect flights to and from Mumbai. Passengers were notified via social media about flight delays and diversions by IndiGo, Vistara, and SpiceJet. One of the passengers said that anxiety was growing among passengers.
Flights To & From Mumbai & Delhi Cancelled
Guwahati-Delhi Flight (UK742) was operated by Vistara, and nine other flights were rerouted to Jaipur, Lucknow, Amritsar, and Ahmedabad airports.
Airport authorities announced on Monday that UK 778, another Vistara flight, which was headed from Kolkata to the nation’s capital, had been rerouted to Lucknow. In addition to these, IndiGo also sent out a notice informing travellers that the services had been impacted by heavy rainfall.
As many flights got cancelled back to back, passengers were becoming restless. Some of them were not informed about the reason for the flight delay, which led to even more chaos at the airports in both Mumbai and Delhi.

Several angry passengers posted about this on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). One of the passengers tagged IndiGo Airlines and posted, “Anxiety is growing among passengers.” She further mentioned that flights from Delhi to Lucknow, Patna, Jammu, and Surat have been cancelled.

Another passenger tagged Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of Civil Aviation, and informed about a Vistara flight. He explained how all the passengers, including him, had been sitting inside the plane for 2 hours without taking off. The passenger also mentioned that some fellow passengers were feeling sick about it.

IndiGo Airlines issued a travel advisory for all its passengers. The advisory mentioned that flight operations to Delhi have been impacted due to rain.

A Look At The Weather Report
As this was going on, Delhi and the surrounding areas saw some light rainfall, which lowered the temperature throughout the region. With this, there should be some relief from the pollution in the national capital in the coming days. On Monday, throughout the day, the lowest temperature ever recorded was 13.4°C.
Mumbai metropolis and the neighbouring districts of Thane and Palghar are under a “yellow” alert, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This alert suggests that there is a high probability of thunderstorms with lightning and strong gusts (30–40 kmph) in a few locations.
A trough has developed along the coast of the Bay of Bengal, resulting in anticipated rainfall events in Mumbai and the surrounding areas. This trough is currently heading towards the coastline of Maharashtra. It may deliver rain to many coastal districts, including certain areas of the metropolitan area of Mumbai.
The temperature in the country’s north is expected to continue to decline over the next few days, according to the IMD.
