Someone Asked, “Can You Identify This Place?” For An Archived Photo Of Mumbai; Netizens Try And Guess

From Bombay to Mumbai, a small fishing hamlet to the financial capital, Amchi Mumbai has come a long way! If you look at the old pictures of Mumbai, I am sure you will not be able to recognize even half of the places. Though some of the iconic places might be recognizable. Well, a page actually posted a picture of old Mumbai and asked people to recognise it. Here’s what netizens answered:

A page @mumbaiheritage posted a black-and-white picture of Mumbai on X (formerly known as Twitter). The picture featured a huge field with a castle-like structure on its right. 

The picture also featured the Arabian Sea in the far background. One can also spot many boats and ships sailing there. The huge ground has a tree in the middle, and there are some hand-pulled rickshaws in a line. 

There are also many settlements along the borders of the land. The picture is from Old Bombay, and the page asked people to guess where the snap is from.

From Racecourse To Azad Maidan

The picture posted by @MumbaiHeritage has by far garnered over 194.4K views and about 925 likes on X (formerly known as Twitter). 

Netizens quickly commented on their guesses in the comments section below, and the page also responded to their answers with a yes or a no. 

Some people guessed it to be Navy Nagar in Colaba, while others said it was Mahalaxmi Racecourse. The reason behind their guesses was the resemblance of these places to the place in the picture. 

One of the users asked the page whether the structure on the right is now the High Court building in Mumbai. To this, the page replied no. 

One of the users, @GarvSeSecular posted the same picture but pointed out the places that are featured in it. This included the Mumbai police headquarters, Jehangir Art Gallery, and Lion Gate.
