The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has begun receiving numerous requests from Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandals across the city. The number of requests received by the BMC is around 2000.

Out of these 2000 requests, about 1,255 have already been approved. On various grounds, around 248 requests have also been cancelled until August 31. The festivities will begin on September 19 and end on September 28.

Since August 1, the civic body has been receiving requests from mandals to set up pandals on the roads. This time a one-window system has been applied, where the mandal can directly apply to the BMC for permission. Earlier, they had to separately approach the fire brigade, police, and traffic police for permission.

Permissions Are Granted For Free

Applications for setting up Sarvanjanik Ganesh pandals can be easily submitted by visiting the BMC website. People can send in applications on the website until September 13, up to 5 pm. This permission will be granted for free. One has to submit a security deposit of ₹1,000 after the approval.

A BMC official explained that about 248 applications were rejected for various reasons. One of the reasons behind this is when two mandals ask permission to erect a pandal in the same location. Another reason is when traffic police do not sanction a NOC (no objection certificate).

The president of Brihanmumbai Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Samanvay Samiti (BSGSS), Naresh Dahibavkar, said that they have requested BMC to fix potholes. The reason behind this is that it is very difficult to carry the idol on uneven roads. They have also requested that BMC cut down the longer branches of trees on the road so that the bigger idols can be carried safely.  (As per Free Press Journal)
